Almost
the last event on the Sail Malaysia calendar was a tour of the
highlights of Langkawi island and a final dinner. The buses
collected us from the yacht club in Kuah tow early afternoon and took
us first to see the tomb of legendary local beauty Mahsuri who was
murdered hundreds of years ago. There is a fine site and
reconstruction of the houses she would have known all set within the
back drop of paddy fields. We visited a gallery of artefacts and a
hot spring where it was a delight to sit with feet in the very warm
water. Before dinner there was time to visit Cenaga beach on the
west coast and enjoy a cold drink in the late afternoon sun.

And
then it was dinner – a feast – at the restaurant joined to the
rice museum, an enterprise dedicated to showing and explaining the
process of growing and harvesting rice, a valuable crop in this area.
Dinner was a delight under the stars with dancers to entertain and
spit roast lamb on the barbecue. By the time we dropped off at the
yacht club it was a stuffed and happy bunch of cruisers.
