Today we moved over to the big island to spend a few days in Marina Bas du Fort in Point a Pitre on the south side of Guadeloupe. The docks are med mooring style, ie a line from bow to a ball and stern to the dock. That is fine, squeezing us into the smallest space between two boats, one steel with a prominent rub rail, was tricky. Much 'more reverse engine Captain' encouragement from the dock master so we were close enough to the dock to be able to step off.
But we are in and tied up and on a mission. There's a hire car with our name on it to collect tomorrow afternoon, new chandlers and technical shops to explore. The first chandlery is called Karen. Does that mean every customer has to have a screaming fit at the owner or does the owner get aggressive with the customers? Neither. All was pleasant and we found the perfect replacement fire extinguisher for our engine room.
Our next good fortune was found at the Raymarine shop where we hoped to get a diagnosis, and even more hopefully, a fix for our broken radar (still within its three year warranty). Monsieur Pochon asked David to bring it in to him for testing. A dash back to the boat, up the mizzen mast, radar detached and back to the shop before closing time. Tomorrow we should find out what the problem is...
